Terminology of rice culture in Vietnamese: A socio-cultural perspectives

Rice is essential staple food for humans, especially in Asian countries such as Vietnam. On the other hand, rice is a political commodity since it plays a very important role in daily life. A study related to rice always expresses the significance of rice by itself. Research on the terminology of rice culture in Vietnamese may lead to interesting findings since rice plays a very important part in Vietnamese daily life as well as Vietnamese culture.

From the aspect of Linguistics and by the methodology of Componential Analysis, this paper has objectives as follows:

· To list, classify and group the terminology of rice culture in Vietnamese.

· To study the meanings and characteristics in term of semantic perspective on terminology of rice culture in Vietnamese.

· To have an initial socio-cultural reflections analysis on terminology of rice culture in Vietnamese.
